ABSTRACT

Nowdays, smart cards play an increasingly important role in many sectors of life. Smart cards are often used for secure data storage and to authenticate and ensure security transaction. Possible applications for using smart cards are diverse. In the health care sector, smart card can help to reduce the complexity of managing information concerning patient’s medical histories. The card can store patient’s medical records, providing up-to-date and reliable medical information and enabling information sharing among physicians, hospitals, and pharmacies.

This research project proposes the use of smart card in health care application for tuberculosis patient. Structural analysis consists of data analysis and interface analysis. Data analysis is needed to design and implement the application and data that will be stored in smart card. Application in smart card will be implemented using Java Card framework. Interface model between smart card and host application is an application-level protocol, referred to as Application Protocol Data Unit. Command and response messages of this communication protocol must be defined as specified in ISO 7816-4.

Keywords : smart card, java card, applet, on-card application, host application, application protocol data unit.
